There were a few of us who braved the rains to attend Hope & Horses Annual Weekend Camping trip at the Zumbro River Bottoms August 17-19, 2007. It was cold and a wash out but we had a great time anyway. Several of us were thankful our trailers and campers were stock with winter gear. Who knew you'd need a Carhatt in mid-August? The picnic pavilion provided shelter from the rain and allowed us to roast smores over the Coleman stove and share in a potluck. When the rain let up a bit, we got a fire going and watched it burn from the shelter of the pavilion. There may not have been much riding but the conversations ranged from light chatter to in-depth, heartfelt discussions. We closed Saturday night with a discussion on Colossians 3 and then made a mad dash to take cover from the storm.
On a related note, the Monday after we left, the rains flooded out the campground in which we stayed. The bridge connecting the west side of the forest to the east side has been closed because the banks supporting it are washing away. This will be a huge loss for the riding community if the bridge is uncrossable. The picture above of Rollie and David crossing the Zumbro River shows the bridge as it was before all the rains.
