Last Staurday, several from Hope & Horses had the privilege of hearing how Dave Kes of Roughstock Rodeo Ministry has been following God's call to minister to rodeo cowboys for more than seven years. Dave's story is just one of many examples of how God uses seemingly ordinary people to deliver His extraordinary message of salvation.
Dave was drawn to rodeos by his two stepsons who rode bulls for a few years. One night when he was praying for his boys, God told him to pray for all the cowboys. He obeyed and invited the cowboys waiting to ride to pray with him. That practice continues today. He later began holding Sunday church services. Sometimes there are 10 people in attendance; other days there's 50 to 60.
While Dave's boys aren't riding much anymore, he still preaches his cowboy church services and prays with cowboys throughout Minnesota, the Midwest and as far away as Maine. He's made a long-term commitment to sharing the Gospel with cowboys who often fall into a life of immorality, drugs and alcohol.
He has faced opposition in his ministry and spiritual warfare. Yet he perseveres, bringing God to the dark corners of the rodeo circuit nearly every weekend during the season.
Please pray for Dave to have the courage to follow God's will in all he does. Pray that he and his family will lean on God when they face opposition. Pray that the cowboys would listen and respond to Dave's presentation of the Gospel and find the freedom and peace of God.
Grace & Peace,
Amy
