Good soon-to-be-spring afternoon, friends! (Let’s think positive!) Hope and Horses has been invited to take part in the annual Fall Trail Ride fundraiser for We Can Ride. As many of you may know, fall is a truly gorgeous time of year to ride the River Bottoms. If this sounds like something you’d like to get involved with, please read on.
We Can Ride, founded in 1982, offers therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving to adults and children living with disabilities. We Can Ride is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a Premier Accredited member of North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.
Experience what an impact the program makes in the lives of these precious clients of all ages:
"My child giggles when we arrive for horseback riding!"...parent of a young rider.
"My son is participating in a sport that all children can participate in."...parent of a school-age rider.
"My child began to walk after going through Hippotherapy classes!"
"I'm so impressed with the volunteers who give so much to help my child participate in the program!"...parent of a new rider.
"When I'm riding my horse, no one can tell I have a disability!"...10 year old rider.
"I love my horse and my volunteers are my best friends!"
"When I'm driving my horse in the carriage, I can imagine what it would be like to drive a car."...17 year old driver who is non-ambulatory.
"I feel like the king of the world being up so high and telling my horse what to do."...a rider with spastic CP.
Doesn’t that give you goose bumps?

***PRAYER REQUEST***
Following is an update from Valerie and Sharon – please continue to hold them close in your prayers:
It was a beautiful day in Mpls, we got 7 inches of snow!! So far anyway, it’s still snowing. I heard it was 75 in Okla. today, and all the trees are budding out. Lord willing, we may be home in a week or two, and be able to enjoy the spring ourselves.
Val had surgery 2 weeks ago on her arm, probably the most painful procedure she has had--that she can remember anyway. They kept it open for a few days, and it looked good so they closed it up. There are a couple of pockets of possible infection that have reappeared, they aspirated one today and sent it to the lab. PLEASE PRAY that she won't have to go back to the hospital for more surgery and delay us getting home. Or, it be an infection that we have a difficult time getting rid of. We feel like we are so close to getting home. Valerie's foot is still a problem, also. The toes have healed well, but there are some other wounds that we deal with daily that makes walking harder for her. Val works so hard at rehab, no matter how she feels she is always cheerful and gives it her best. She is making a lot of progress, too. We thank the Lord everyday for muscles that "weren't supposed" to work again.
She was so happy to see Kennedy this week-end. She worried so much that she wouldn't remember her, and now Kennedy climbs in bed with her and points at her and says "ma-ma". She pats Val, and tries to feed her, and when they leave and Val cries, Kennedy wants to reach down and wipe her eyes. It is so sweet. April 16 Kennedy will be 2 yrs old, and we are really praying Valerie will be home for her birthday. "Home" is a wonderful word, it really is "where the heart is." I can't even imagine the wonder and joy of our "real" homecoming with the Lord, to see our loved ones who have gone on ahead, who are part of the great "cloud of witnesses". The world has nothing to offer compared to that!!! Great is the Lord!!!
Please remember us, we love you. Valerie and Sharon
