Coming into winter, I know there will be weeks that I won’t see Ernie. I don’t have the pleasure of caring for him every day. So, when the weather turns cold, it’s easy to stay home where it’s warm rather than getting bundled up to visit Ernie. As the weeks go by though, I miss him more and more. There’s just something about the way he smells and how he reminds me to relax. Life seems to take on a different pace around him. I feel centered after visiting him; I have a peace. Knowing that feeling deep inside me makes me long for him more. He is so precious to me. When I see him again, I just want to run to him. I’m giddy with excitement. I hope others know this deep bond I’m describing.
Did it ever occur to you that the deep longing you may feel towards your horse, your spouse or your child is the same longing that God feels for you? He wants to be in a relationship with you. He wants you to come to him when you’re confused, lonely, afraid, and when you’re happy and content. He longs for you. He intercedes for you. He sees your every tear and has numbered the hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30). He wants everyone to believe in his son, the son who came to earth to save us from the penalty of our sins. In Romans we're told, the penalty for sin is death. Through faith in Christ, we don’t have to pay that penalty.
This Christmastime let us remember how much he truly loves us and the extent to which he went to save us. Consider these versus and go to him:
Psalm 139:17: “How precious are your thoughts about me O God! They are innumerable.”
Romans 8:38-39: “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t and life can’t. The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away. Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 17:22-23: “I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are—I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one. Then the world will know that you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me.”
Romans 5:8: “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
1 John 4:10: “This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”
If you have not yet trusted in Christ as your savior, will you now? See http://www.allaboutgod.com/Salvation-Prayer.htm for a simple prayer to confess your faith in Christ.
Merry Christmas, friends.
